Whether watching elephants cross the Luangwa River from the spacious decks or walking with a passionate guide through remote bushland, every moment is rooted in authenticity and respect for nature. Their seasonal camps provide rare access to pristine, less-travelled areas, making each safari feel like a true exploration.
»Travel should open minds, protect nature, and honour local voices. That’s the kind of safari we’re proud to offer and the only kind we’d want to share.«
What is the philosophy behind Kafunta Safaris?
Kafunta Safaris believes that travel should be a force for good—one that respects, protects, and uplifts. As a small, owner-run company, they’re deeply connected to the local land and people. Their team isn’t just staff; they’re family—many have been with the company from the get go and share in the vision of creating safaris that are not only unforgettable, but also responsible.
This philosophy is reflected in how KS builds, operates, and grows. Their properties are crafted with local materials using traditional techniques, designed to blend into the landscape rather than dominate it. They operate mostly on solar power, embracing a more ecofriendly way of living in the bush.
KS supports conservation through long-standing partnerships with organizations dedicated to protecting South Luangwa’s wildlife, and it actively invests in education and community development. Joining Conscious Explorer is a natural extension of these values—anconnect with like-minded travellers and businesses that opportunity to believe in conscious travel as a pathway to lasting change.
What unique stays does Kafunta Safaris offer?
Kafunta Safaris operates three unique camps in South Luangwa National Park. Kafunta River Lodge is their flagship property, combining classic safari comfort with stunning views over the Luangwa floodplains. It also includes the Sunset House, which is a private safari house for families or small groups.
Island Bush Camp and Three Rivers Camp, open in the dry season only, are smaller, off-the-grid camps that immerse guests in the remote wilderness. Island Bush Camp promotes simplicity and immersion with nature, right on the banks of the Luangwa River, while Three Rivers Camp offers an elegant, eco-conscious design in a spectacular setting where three rivers meet.
Each camp offers walking safaris and game drives led by expert guides, ensuring an immersive and flexible safari experience.
