Our partner: Kapara Collection

Kapara Collection is a small consultancy and representation company based in the UK and South Africa, working with impact-led hotels, safari camps, and DMCs across the globe.

Founded by Katie Fewkes and Kate Hall – each bringing 20 years of experience across various roles in the travel industry, including sales, marketing, product management, business development, and commercial strategy at market-leading tour operators, safari operators, and DMCs.

The company aims to share its expertise to support founder-run businesses throughout their journey, collaborating closely and acting as an extension of their teams. The company’s founding clients are located in Kenya, Sri Lanka, India, and South America.

These progressive businesses, led by visionary leaders, share a common goal: to create distinctive, immersive travel experiences that go beyond the ordinary, fostering genuine connections between travellers and the people and places they visit.

What is special about Kapara Collection?

Kapara Collection’s greatest asset lies in the partners it works with: At its inception, the company set out to collaborate with small, owner-run businesses focused on impactful and conscious travel, ensuring that local communities, wild places, and wildlife receive positive benefits from tourism revenue.

The company is fortunate to count a collection of like-minded, inspiring partners among its founding members. These range from nature-focused safari camps to boutique DMCs that continually innovate to offer travellers meaningful, rich experiences—deeply connecting with the country, its people, and places visited, while supporting remote regions in offsetting the damage caused by overtourism.

Kapara Collection also works closely with the travel trade, empowering and upskilling partners when products or destinations are new. It supports private travel designers and tour operators in confidently promoting travel in different seasons and to off-the-beaten-track locations.

Both Kate and Katie have a genuine passion for sharing their knowledge with clients and the broader travel trade. They also continuously learn from their partners, remaining inspired and excited by this reciprocal exchange.

What is the philosophy behind Kapara Collection?

Kapara Collection believes that sometimes a fresh perspective is all it takes to find a way forward, unlock challenges, or identify the right path—this is the essence of the company’s mission.

Kate and Katie’s diverse careers across multiple sectors of the travel industry enable them to offer valuable insights, practical ways of working, and meaningful support for small owner-run businesses to grow. The company focuses its time and energy on helping organisations engaged in meaningful work that uplifts rural communities and conserves wild places, enabling flora and fauna to thrive.

Kapara Collection understands the powerful impact tourism revenue can have on conservation and communities when properly applied, and recognizes the risks of deprioritising these goals amid business pressures. All partner clients prioritize making a positive impact—this shared philosophy unites them.

Together, they acknowledge their common goals and embrace continuous learning to improve and do better.

What support does Kapara Collection offer for organizations?

Kapara Collection’s services vary widely to meet the unique needs of its clients but fundamentally fall into two categories: consultancy and representation. As consultants, they act as an additional resource – providing strategic thinking and hands-on support tailored to each business’s needs (within their expertise, though they do not act as CFOs).

This often begins with a thorough review of challenges and barriers, alongside clearly defining business goals and unique selling points. From there, an action plan is developed, and Kapara Collection collaborates with clients and their teams through coaching, training, upskilling, and, when necessary, direct execution. Engagements typically operate on a monthly retainer basis but can also be project-specific with defined start and end dates.

Consultancy services include occupancy growth strategies, new product development, property launches, pricing and commission structure reviews, growth in market segments or source markets, brand positioning, website development, and more. Representation services focus on connecting clients with relevant, high-quality partners within the travel trade, across one or multiple source markets. This approach emphasizes quality and alignment rather than sheer volume of contacts.

Kate and Katie leverage their strong networks and realistic strategies to identify new business opportunities, staying alert to emerging tour operators, agents, and private travel designers. In addition to product training, they provide destination training and review trade collateral, communications, and policies.

Consultancy and representation are often combined to ensure solid foundations and a clear, aligned focus on who to approach and how to position the brand.
