Our partner: The Safari Series
The Safari Series is a collection of small, nature-based businesses dedicated to creating environmental and economic uplift for Africa's wild spaces and the communities that depend on them. The founders Moon and Ed are passionate conservationists and believe in creating access to nature, to inspire travellers and future generations to want to care for it.
They do this in a number of ways, such as keeping pricepoints on the affordable side to enable those who might have ruled out a safari to come, or to encourage those who love it to be able to return regularly. This is a rare and refreshing approach in the safari space.
The collection includes a small tented camp, Moon’s Camp, in Kenya’s Laikipia region, a family-friendly exclusive use beach house, Chuchungi House, on the southern shores of Lamu on the Kenya coast, and the African Private Guides Network, home to some of the continent’s best homegrown guides with specialist interests, languages and safari nannies.

What is special about travelling with The Safari Series?
The Safari Series is an owner-run business which puts people and nature first, inviting travellers to really slow down and engage with the place they’re exploring and with the people they encounter along the way. What began as a tented camp has grown into a collection of small businesses where the focus is not just on creating an enriching travel experience, but just as importantly, ensuring the benefits reach communities right on their doorstep, as well as preserving and creating more space for nature, flora and fauna.
They are truly committed to championing initiatives which enhance wildlife conservation and support local economies. Ensuring staff hired come from within 15km of their properties, buying locally and sustainably grown produce, recycling and upcycling, and using electric motorbikes to deliver supplies to their safari camp are just some of the internal measures.
In addition, they have sponsored school feeding programmes, paid for a wildlife monitoring motorbike for rangers to reduce human-wildlife conflict, arranging community beach clean-ups and hiring turtle rangers to monitor turtle nests in Lamu.

What is the philosophy behind The Safari Series?
The Safari Series is inspired by Sir David Attenborough who has shone a spotlight on wild places and remote communities to the broader world, and who said “No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced”.
This philosophy runs through everything founders Moon and Ed have done in creating The Safari Series, from their initial tented camp to creating a network to improve access to African specialist private guides.
They believe true luxury these days is not about the thread count of bedsheets or having a tasting menu with silver candlesticks. Still, in the elements which are so often missing or forgotten in the busy-ness of modern life - they invite travellers to experience the luxuries of freedom, adventure and time (time together, time to reconnect with yourself, and the joy of letting go of the sense of time, not worrying about the watch and simply following the rhythm of sunrise and sunset).
The Safari Series encourages travellers to engage in inspiring conversations, connecting with not just their safari guide or property hosts but also with each other—with the chefs, waiters, and boat captains—to really interact, learn, laugh, ask the big questions, and debate how to live a more connected life.
What programmes does The Safari Series offer?
Moon’s Camp in the Lolldaiga Conservancy in Kenya offers an adventurous and nature-connected safari experience. With just five guest tents, the atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, and it feels more like staying with friends than in a lodge.
Silver-rated guides are your hosts as you explore the conservancy's four distinct ecosystems overlooking Mount Kenya. You will likely see leopards, elephants, and more, and you will regionally seek out lions and specific species such as reticulated giraffe and oryx.
Activities include game drives, night drives, walking safaris, cultural visits, medicinal plant walks, birding safaris, helicopter excursions further afield, horse riding safaris, fly-camping and visits to ancient rock art in caves. Guests are also invited to try their hand as a safari guide, driving one of the restored vintage Series Land Rovers, if they wish.
Chuchungi House is a fully staffed and catered beach house in the Lamu Archipelago on the Kenyan coast. Booked exclusively for a family or group of friends, it has three bedrooms, a capable team, a swimming pool, roof terrace, and a well-stocked watersports store on site. Sundowners are served on the beach each evening, and the boat captain arranges activities that include waterskiing, SUP, snorkelling, creek fishing, and show sailing, as well as visits to nearby Shela and Lamu town.
The African Private Guides Network is home to many of Africa’s best homegrown guides, true experts in their destinations, cultures or specialist areas. Located across the continent, from Chad to Rwanda to Tanzania and everywhere in between, these guides have been carefully selected and vetted, languages and qualifications checked thoroughly, to ensure you are matched to the right guide for your group’s needs.
The safari nannies are bookable separately or alongside a guide to offer a consistent (and paediatric first-aid trained) pair of hands to care for younger guests throughout the trip, allowing parents to relax and enjoy their adventure.
