Moon’s Camp invites you to experience the magic of safari in one of Kenya’s most beautiful and varied landscapes, the Lolldaiga Conservancy, in Laikipia.

The only safari camp on the conservancy, you have a vast area to explore without any other vehicles in sight.

Lolldaiga has four different ecosystems to traverse with your expert safari guides, seeking out lion, leopard, elephant, hyena and the northern Kenya species such as reticulated giraffe, oryx, Somali ostrich and a spectacular array of birdlife.

The camp has just five guest tents, and owners Moon and Ed live on site with their family, so a stay here feels more like being welcomed by friends to experience this wild and beautiful place.

Where the prices are increasing astronomically in the safari world, Moon’s Camp remains purposefully affordable to ensure the safari experience is available to as many travellers as possible to inspire more people to care for nature and the wild and make better choices when they get home.

The result is a charming tented camp experience with a relaxed atmosphere, engaging conversations shared around the campfire and where guests don’t look for silver candlesticks types of luxury, but instead the luxuries of space, freedom and quality time together.

What is special about Moon’s Camp?

Owner-run and hosted, Moon’s Camp is a safari camp full of heart and soul. The focus here is on exploring, discovering, learning and enjoying the freedom of this vast and varied conservancy where it’s rare to see another traveller or vehicle.

Some days you’ll wake before dawn to enjoy an unforgettable sunrise in the wild. Others you’ll pack a picnic and a sense of adventure, to explore the arid northern section of Lolldaiga, or set off on foot to explore caves where rock art tells a tale of life here thousands of years ago. Drive through the age-old cedar forest in the heart of the hills, and admire the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya when the clouds part.

The goal for the whole of The Safari Series, which Moon’s Camp is part of, is to create economic and environmental upliftment for Africa's wild spaces and the communities that depend on them. 90% of the staff here come from within 15kms of the camp, which makes a meaningful difference to their families and wider communities in the area.

Moon’s Camp also supports various grassroots projects including providing hot lunches for children in schools at nearby Makurian village and funding a motorbike for rangers to use in mitigating human-wildlife conflict in northern Laikipia.

Expect inspiring and engaging conversations around the dinner table and campfire with the staff and other guests, whether sharing stories of the day’s adventures or getting into a deeper discussion around finding a balance between the community’s thriving and protecting wild places. This is a place that sparks and indeed encourages a curious mind and heart.

What unique features are incorporated in Moon’s Camp?

The camp is simple in its design, always putting nature first, and is superbly comfortable - each guest tent has a deck at the front where you can watch birds with your morning coffee, comfy blankets and hot water bottles to keep you warm at night, and an en-suite bathroom with bucket shower.

Eco-friendly products are used throughout, furniture is locally crafted, and the emphasis is feeling at one with nature rather than separate from it. A wood-burning stove keeps the lounge and dining tent cosy in the cool evenings, and food is all sourced within 10 km, supporting regenerative and holistic farmers, line-caught fish and making the best of seasonal ingredients.

Nearby, a fire pit and chairs overlook a waterhole frequented by wildlife passing by, and there is a small spa tent to ease away the stresses of real life.

What activities are being offered at Moon’s Camp?

There is so much to see and do at Moon’s Camp, most guests wish they had stayed longer! They offer all of the traditional safari activities such as game drives and night drives with their expert Maasai guides, walking safaris (everything from a medicinal walk slow walk to a half day hike) and community visits.

The Camp loves to send guests out with a picnic for breakfast/lunch/dinner in the wild. But there’s so much more to see and do here, some of which is really unique - visits to ancient African rock art in a cave in the Lolldaiga Hills, join owner Moon on an ethno-botany class, get involved in conservation activities on the conservancy such as tree wrapping or joining Timau River scouts to learn about human wildlife conflict and the pressures of community on river ecosystems.

For travellers seeking a bit of adrenaline, take to the wheel of one of their restored vintage Series Land Rovers (with a guide as your copilot) to live out your safari guide dreams for a morning or afternoon, or hop in a helicopter to explore further afield such as one of Mount Kenya’s alpine lakes.

Families are warmly welcomed here, and Moon’s Camp has an array of kid-focussed activities to keep little ones engaged, learning and entertained, so parents can relax a little, too! And the Artist in Residence is always happy to do an art class out in the bush, too.

»No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced.«

Moons Camp. A place that reminds you what matters

Some places don’t just show you the wild - they remind you that you are wild. Moons Camp is one of them.

You wake before first light. Coffee in hand, wrapped in a blanket, you set out into the quiet with a guide who knows how to read the land like a book passed down through generations. The sun rises. Lions are tracking buffalo. Your city-dwelling mind blown.

Back at camp, the food. Honest & thoughtful. The kind that tells you the team cares deeply. About the ingredients. About you.

And that’s the thing. The people here — they’re not doing this because it’s profitable. They’re doing it because they believe in the value of nature. They've built something that feels less like a business and more like a quiet revolution. They know this land, they love it, and they want you to fall in love with it too.

Moons Camp doesn’t shout. It doesn’t need to. It’s the kind of place that leaves its mark with meaning.

Go. Feel small again. And leave with something much bigger.
