Topics and activities of the Wildlife Protection Project

Immerse yourself in a transformative experience that combines wildlife conservation with hands-on learning. Volunteers will assist in caring for rescued animals, including feeding and maintaining their enclosures. You’ll work alongside veterinarians and animal welfare specialists, gaining insights into species-specific needs and conservation challenges.

The project also features an educational facility, promoting awareness about the impact of illegal animal trade and the importance of wildlife conservation.

Arrival and orientation

Upon arrival in Guatemala, fly into La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City, then take a bus or flight to Flores in Petén. From there, a staff member will guide you to the project base via a scenic boat ride across the lake. You’ll have the chance to familiarize yourself with the area, meet the team, and receive a tour of the rescue center to start your volunteering journey.

Accommodation and board in Peten

Volunteers stay in dormitory-style rooms with comfortable bunk beds and communal bathrooms. The site features a kitchen and dining area, a private lake dock for relaxation, and a game room.

The accommodation fosters a strong community spirit among staff, interns, and volunteers, all working together towards the common goal of wildlife conservation. Everyone contributes to maintaining a serene environment beneficial for both people and animals.

Leisure time during the project

In your free time, you can enjoy swimming in the lake, exploring nearby villages like El Arrozal and San Miguel, or visiting the nearby town of Flores. Engage in activities such as playing games, practicing Spanish, or relaxing by the lake. Meals are prepared by an on-site chef, offering three nutritious local dishes daily, with vegetarian options available.
