Topics and activities of the Marine Conservation trip

As part of this initiative, volunteers immerse themselves in a variety of activities tailored to fostering marine sustainability. Each programme focuses on unique conservation themes, such as coral health monitoring, fish and invertebrate ecosystem dynamics, and sponge anatomy research.

Daily dives and theory classes equip participants with essential skills for ecological data collection, while reef cleanups contribute to tangible environmental benefits. Volunteers also enjoy “fun dives” to explore the underwater beauty of Bocas del Toro.

Arrival and orientation

Upon arrival at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, volunteers make their way to Bocas del Toro via domestic flight or bus. The project staff will coordinate pick-up and transfer to the volunteer house.

Orientation includes an introduction to the marine conservation programmes, diving certification (if applicable), and a warm welcome to the local community.

Accommodation and board during the project

Volunteers stay in a newly constructed dormitory-style house near the project site. The cozy accommodations include shared bathrooms, a communal kitchen, and a terrace offering stunning jungle views.

Meals, prepared with local ingredients, are served six days a week, and vegetarian options are available. On Sundays, volunteers enjoy the opportunity to explore local cuisine.

Leisure time in Panama

Afternoons and days off are perfect for exploring the scenic beaches, vibrant local villages, or indulging in snorkeling and surfing. The volunteer house offers board games and movies for a relaxing end to the day. Excursions and group activities help create lasting memories with fellow volunteers.
