California, known as the "fruit garden of America," boasts varied landscapes like the Sierra Nevada mountains, foggy coasts, scorching deserts, and the fertile Central Valley. Highlights include Yosemite National Park, with its majestic waterfalls and giant sequoias. The state's geographical diversity makes it a hotspot for adventure and wildlife enthusiasts.

Topics and activities of volunteering in California

Make a meaningful impact on nature conservation on the West Coast. Participate in tasks like trail building, maintenance, fencing, removing invasive species, and erosion control. Gain hands-on experience with trail-building techniques and hand tools while exploring California's rich biodiversity.

Work follows an 8-6-8 rhythm: eight days on the project, six days off in Sacramento, then back for another eight days. This cycle allows you to delve deep into California’s nature and make a lasting contribution to its conservation.

Arrival and orientation

Arrive at Sacramento International Airport on Thursday, where our partner will welcome you and take you to your base. Settle into your room, meet fellow volunteers, and learn about your project's goals and tasks.

California, with its diverse landscapes and vibrant cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, offers endless exploration opportunities. From sandy beaches and mountain vistas to sequoia forests and the arid Death Valley, you can surf, ski, hike, or simply relax on the beach.

Accommodation and board in California

Your base will be a volunteer house in Sacramento with shared bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and common spaces. Spend free time with international volunteers and explore the surroundings together. During projects, you'll camp at sites with sanitary facilities or in the wild. Meals are prepared by the group, with volunteers taking turns for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Three meals are provided daily during projects; off-day meals are not included.

Leisure time

Between projects, explore the area's magnificent scenery with fellow volunteers. Visit Sequoia National Park, Yosemite, Sierra Nevada, or Death Valley. Natucate offers valuable tips for an unforgettable journey through the western USA.
