These activities are designed to provide practical experience in field research, while also contributing to the protection of the Amazon's biodiversity. Whether you are clearing trails, setting up camera traps, or helping with surveys, your efforts will directly support the preservation of this vital habitat.

The program emphasizes both practical skills and theoretical knowledge, ensuring that participants gain a comprehensive understanding of rainforest conservation and research methodologies.

Arrival and orientation in Peru

Upon arriving at Padre Aldamiz International Airport, we suggest staying in a local hotel or hostel for the first night to ease your transition. Volunteers are picked up by boat every Wednesday and Sunday from Puerto Maldonado and transported to the research station.

After you arrive, you'll receive an introduction to the station’s operations and daily routines. This initial orientation will help you acclimate to the environment and decide how you would like to spend your first days, whether by engaging in activities or resting.

Accommodation and board in Peru

Volunteers and interns stay in comfortable, communal accommodations that include a well-equipped kitchen, dining area, library, and individual bungalows with private bathrooms.

Shared responsibilities include cleaning your room and bathroom, participating in communal meal preparations, and assisting with station maintenance tasks. The environment is designed to foster a collaborative and supportive community.

Leisure time in the rainforest

Spending your free time in the rainforest is a chance to unwind and reflect on your experiences. The station’s amenities include hammocks and outdoor spaces where you can relax after a day of fieldwork.

This time also allows you to interact with fellow volunteers and researchers, share experiences, and enjoy the serene surroundings of the Amazon.

The region of Puerto Maldonado

The research station is located in the region of Puerto Maldonado, a key area for conservation and research within the Peruvian Amazon. This region is designated as a nature reserve by the Peruvian government and spans approximately 200 hectares. It serves as a focal point for efforts to protect the Amazon's biodiversity. By participating in this program, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the ecological significance of Puerto Maldonado and contribute to vital conservation initiatives aimed at preserving this unique and critical habitat.
